The New Orleans Saints wasted no time bolstering their depth after a close look at players during rookie minicamp, officially signing two experienced NFL veterans: safety Terrell Burgess and wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones. Both impressed in tryouts and have now earned one-year contracts with the team.
Burgess, a former third-round pick who has spent time with the Los Angeles Rams and New York Giants, brings versatility and depth to the Saints' secondary. His strong showing during the minicamp workouts was enough to convince the front office he deserved a shot to compete for a spot heading into training camp.
On the offensive side, the Saints also added Peoples-Jones, a 2020 sixth-round draft pick out of Michigan. After stints with the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions, the 6-foot-2 receiver now brings size, speed, and NFL experience to a wide receiver corps looking for consistency behind star Chris Olave.
To make room for the new additions, the Saints waived safety Millard Bradford and running back Jordan Mims.
These roster tweaks come as the team continues to integrate recent draft picks, including third-round safety
Jonas Sanker, who officially inked his four-year rookie deal. Sanker, a Virginia standout, is expected to contribute immediately on special teams and provide depth in the defensive backfield.
Fans eager to catch an early glimpse of the revamped roster will have the opportunity when the Saints open their June 10 and June 11 minicamp practices to the public at the Ochsner Sports Performance Center in Metairie. Both sessions begin at 11:50 a.m.
With a blend of young talent and savvy veterans now in the fold, the Saints are steadily shaping a roster that aims to compete in what’s expected to be a tight NFC South race.
